Turan Sahinkaya and Lori Sahinkaya are proud parents to have their children
Scott, Trent, and Chad win the PTA Reflections contest for multiple years during
their time in elementary and middle school.
Reflections is a cultural arts program sponsored by the PTA which encourages
creativity and artistic expression. It was developed in 1969 by Colorado PTA
President Mary Lou Anderson to interest children, parents, teachers and
communities in the arts.
Turan Sahinkaya states, “My kids really look forward to this project each year.”
Each year a new theme is chosen and students can enter in four categories:
literature, visual arts, photography and music.
Trent, son of Lori and
Turan Sahinkaya, had a literature entry entitled “I am
really happy when…” that won first place at Colleyville Elementary School. It
then advanced to the GCISD district level. Trent Sahinkaya was awarded a special
presentation at his school and received a ribbon and certificate.
Chad, son of Lori and Turan Sahinkaya, was the GCISD Council Reflections winner
for 2008/09 with his literature entry entitled, “I’m Going to be a Big Brother!”
Chad received a trophy and an Award of Merit.
The Reflections Program is a PTA sponsored arts recognition and achievement
program for students based on the belief that all children deserve a quality
arts education.
Turan Sahinkaya says, “My children enjoy expressing themselves
through words and this program helps them grow intellectually while at the same
time increasing their self-confidence.”
“I hope my children continue to enter the Reflections contest and of course
continue to win,” jokes Turan Sahinkaya. In its more than 30-year history, the
Reflections Program has encouraged millions of students across the nation and in
American schools overseas to create works of art.
